It will get done
When I reflect on my time at University, I feel quite satisfied with how I spent it. I wasn’t overly concerned with my grades and consistently sought new experiences with new people.
Naturally, though, there were still plenty of moments of stress, uncertainty and anxiety.
A truth I held on to in these times was that no matter what, I would get it done.
It didn’t matter how confident I was in what I was studying, which stage I was at with my assignment or how much time I had left until the deadline - I would get it done.
It got done
Oftentimes I couldn’t see how, and many times it felt like it wasn’t possible. But the truth of knowing in one way or another I would get it done kept me focused on just that.
With that focus on that truth I can proudly say that every assignment, project and exam of mine was completed on time.
Another truth
Today, I hold strong to another truth: He is good.
A lot has happened for me and my life in the last year and many foundations of my life remain ever-changing. I have been in a constant state of uprootedness and a space where once roots begin to grow they’re soon dug up again.
A guiding truth
At times, and particularly recently, this feels frustrating and I question when I’ll have the feeling of being settled with a firm idea of what my path ahead looks like.
Yet through all of these moments, it’s this truth that guides me through.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles chapter 16:, verse 34)
Our good God
As Christians we believe in God. And that God, our God, the God, is good.
He isn’t just powerful. He isn’t just loving. He isn’t just enduring.
He is good.
From the creation of the universe right down to us - He is good. He had and has plans, and we can count on them being good.
A steadfast truth
And that’s the truth I hold to.
When I can’t see what’s in front of me. When I don’t know exactly where I’m at, where I’m going or how I make my next step - I hold on to the truth that He is good.
Good plans for our lives
It’s the truth that reminds me that although I can’t see His plans, I know He not only has them, but that they’re good.
It’s also the truth which makes the plans themselves matter less.
It makes the uncertainty of where I’m at now matter less. It makes the feelings of confusion, doubt, and anxiousness less because regardless of what is going on or what’s coming next - I know it will be good.
Because He is good.
Enduring goodness
So wherever you are, whatever situation you’re in right now, whether your horizon is clear or cloudy - remember that He is good.
Trust that He loves you and He wants what’s good for you. Whether you see it or not. Feel it or not. He is good.
Trust in the goodness of God. Be thankful for the goodness of God. And rest in knowing that His goodness will endure forever.
