Dear Christians: It’s time to back off

Dear Christians: It’s time to back off

Not too long ago, I was living in a third world country while working in a humanitarian mission organisation..

  • God, I am amazed by you

Flashback to 90s music. One song comes to mind – Amazed by Lonestar in 1999. Those who are 90s kids like me will relate. Those who don’t, please refer to Google. This was/is still a very popular wedding song because of its lyrics.

  • Top things about New Zealand

It was interesting to read an article in Stuff NZ in April the Best 10 Things about New Zealand by an American tourist.

  • Strength in unity

In Europe and America they have been commemorating D-Day, when 75 years ago young men landed on the beaches of Normandy, under the most harrowing of circumstances,to end four years of Nazi control over Western Europe.

  • The reality of hope

Imagine a world where all Christians were drab, serious and austere, without a sense of humour. In such a world the Church would have virtually no positive influence on anyone, since part of our job as the body of Christ is to exhibit hope to the world, as salt and light.

  • Convenient parenting

We like things to be convenient. The simpler things are, the better it is. We are constantly looking for the easy way out.

  • Communicate Like Jesus

A legacy I’ve inherited from my father is a strong interest in current events; I’m fascinated by what happens in the world, but more specifically I’m an observer of how people respond to what happens in the world.

  • Eight virtues of real wisdom

What are the qualities of real wisdom? How do we know whether someone is truly wise? How can we become wiser? Some would say with age comes wisdom, but that's only half the truth.

  • Early church sites tour - Turkey

I continue to be amazed by the beauty of Turkey! Although a busy industrial country (its number-one industry is car manufacturing), the land is fertile, so there's a lot of agricultural activity going on.

  • Sacred places in the ‘holy land’

Recently I was standing and observing Jewish people visiting the ‘Wailing Wall’ in Jerusalem. The huge stones that make up this wall are very important for orthodox Jews, as these ancient blocks are all that remains of their temple.

  • Is there intelligent life on other planets?

I was asked, by someone investigating Christian faith, whether it was possible that God had created life in other parts of the universe. When I’m asked these types of questions there are two things I consider: What is the Biblical evidence? Does the Bible mention this topic in any way?

  • Disability and poverty

People with disabilities have higher living costs because we have a long list of necessities. On top of general expenses like food, bills and transport disabled people have extra expenses because of our disabilities. New wheelchairs and other equipment occasionally need to be purchased and are expensive. Other disability-related expenses are ongoing like support workers, prescriptive medications and other various things that are essential to someone's wellness.
