Getting cynical about signs from God

Getting cynical about signs from God

I'm a cynic. When I hear people claim that God granted them a car park or made the rain stop, I have to wonder, did he really?.

  • How to ruin Christmas

My sisters and I joke that we grew up with the Christmas Grinch. Our mum hates the commercial fuss of Christmas and has always tried to avoid the material focus: no tree, no decorations, and no fussy Yuletide crafting sessions.

  • What's your driving force?

Sigmund Freud proposed that the "pleasure principle" was the main driving force behind life. He said that everyone wants to live a life full of pleasure. Alfred Adler stated that humans' main driving force was "striving for superiority".

  • Christless Christmas — How Santa dethroned Jesus

The most wonderful time of year is here. The Christmas countdown is nearly complete. Advent calendars almost empty, presents wrapped and placed under the brightly lit tree. No matter where you go, you are reminded the festive season is upon us.

This year has been a winter and I have felt like a lumberjack. I am learning, as the year draws hastily to a close, that I have very little to say.

  • Ordaining the ordinary

Who hasn't felt the desire to do something special for God? Who hasn't felt refreshed at some point after hearing a Bible talk? Who hasn't felt unspiritual and wished to be more prayerful, disciplined, or knowledgeable?

  • What are you building with your life?

A few months ago I found out that one of the teenagers in our youth group has been diagnosed with a severe stage of cancer. At 17.

  • Why the Westboro Baptists scare me

Fred Phelps, the former leader of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) and former patriarch of America's most hated family from Topeka, Kansas, died on 19 March 2014.

  • Rebuilding the fallen planet

The state of the world is full of evil, injustice, war, exploitation etc. ... The Bible says we are dead in our transgressions: that is, spiritually dead. We are without hope in ourselves, having no relationship with God.
